Show notes

Josh Elledge is U.S. Navy veteran and launched UpMyInfluence.com to help entrepreneurs attract the perfect audiences and grow their brands without the crazy costs associated with traditional PR companies. UpMyInfluence’s purpose is to DEMOCRATIZE access to influence. Josh believes he has a moral imperative to help entrepreneurs serve the world with their collective messages while growing their revenue! UpMyInfluence was the natural outgrowth of his first startup, SavingsAngel.com which has grossed more than $6 million in sales with less than $500 in advertising. He did it all through building authority and serving audiences in the media. Josh is a weekly TV consumer expert in Orlando, writes a syndicated newspaper column to 1.1 million readers, and regularly appears on more than 75 TV stations across the country. All told, Josh has appeared in the media more than 2000 times. In this episode we discuss: Josh talks about his dad being in a rock band and how that led to his dad’s business [2:35] His family’s influence on his entrepreneurship [3:49] Getting in trouble in middle school for being business minded [5:52] How Josh saved up $5500 as a high schooler [7:15] What is it that evokes great students who love to read [9:30] How his monthly grocery bill gave him the idea to start SavingsAngel [13:30] How to cut an $800 grocery bill to $300 a month with SavingsAngel [15:49] Adapting to the market in a black swan event [18:20] Investing in relationships and creating value as a marketer [20:48] How UpMyInfluence helps businesses build relationships with customers to increase revenue [22:06] Systematizing creating relationships [24:12] Why he hired a $500/hr guy that he watched on YouTube [25:00] Marketing philosophy that consumers hate Why Josh gives away $8000 worth of services [28:00] How he went from 2-3 sales calls a week to 15-20 consistently [30:48] How to get in touch with Josh [32:52] Quotable Quotes The market is always going to be your boss. You can’t do anything to change the market. But you can introduce new products and services that can improve the lives of other people. Model the thing that you want your kids to do. It’s tough when you live at the office and can’t leave the office. I have to schedule stuff. If it’s not scheduled I don’t do it. If you’re not developing products and services for what consumers are going to be demanding six months from now, you’re really asleep at the wheel. This is a major disruptive moment right now consumer behavior is adjusting in a really big way. Everyone is a consumer we’re all changing things right now. The world, because of covid19, has fast-forwarded a few years. Stop selling. You need to give as much value as you possibly can. Consistently show that you solve problems. People don’t do business with businesses. They don’t do business with services, products. People do business with people.
